Founded in 1923, Le Louvre went on to become the epitome of Melburnian high fashion and sophistication, with a traditional 'couture'-style service that insisted on individual bookings and a non-negotiable dressing service.
Le Louvre bought genuine European couture to the city that still erupts in an explosion of colour with every Spring Racing Carnival, and was a pioneer in establishing the 'Paris End' of Collins St. These days Le Louvre has moved on to new digs in South Yarra and the iconic Collins Street facade, with its '20s era copper facing, is covered behind hoarding while development goes on all around it. The deep affection Melbourne felt for this romantic Collins Street staple continues to be felt: Proposals to redevelop the site (and eradicate the beautiful copper shopfront) have always been swept away with the ease of a marabou feather on a spring breeze.
Harper and Charlie make original retro prints celebrating the culture, architecture and design of Melbourne and Australia.
Inspired by art from the 1950s and 60s, Harper and Charlie use vintage print techniques to achieve their authentic feel. If you look closely you might be able to spot the careful details - slipped registration, slight colour-bleed, or light scuffs in the design - that give these beautiful prints their warmth and character.
All Harper and Charlie prints are designed and made right here in Melbourne using the highest quality commercial grade inks. All prints use premium grade Ilford 180gsm matt paper.
Large prints will be posted carefully rolled in a tube and protected with a layer of brown paper. A4 prints will be posted flat, sandwiched between Kraft board.
