The Cartoonist Laureate of Melbourne is undoubtedly Oslo Davis. With his inimitable style and eye for the lovely, the absurd and the quintessentially Melbourne, it's no surprise you'll find his work popping up everywhere from The Age to The New Yorker.

Oslo Davis' Melbhattan drawing is an homage to both the style of the classic film 'Manhattan', and the absurd sense of seriousness with which Melburnians regard their home town: Give us half a glass of Gippsland wine and we'll start crowing about our "most liveable city" tag, and how despite our dismal beaches and scrubby landscape, our Great Northern Rival is no match for Melbourne's culture of art and hospitality.

Melbhattan folds Melbourne's distinctive neighbourhoods onto the landscape of New York - with gilded Toorak occupying the place of Manhattan's Upper East Side, while Fitzroy nestles into the locale of the East Village. It's a sly wink to the Aussie tradition of taking pretension down a peg, while still celebrating our pride in the vibrancy of the city it takes all 4.94 million of us to make.

Melbournalia's tea towels are useful, lightweight and unbreakable gifts to pack or send to friends far away, and while they make lovely homewares, you may find that you'd prefer to hang your Melbhattan tea towel to remember your Australian adventure.

You’ll find your linen tea towel quite stiff at first. This is what makes it great for printing. It will soften after a few washes, and it may shrink a little. Linen’s absorbency improves over time. Best of all, it doesn’t leave pills on your glassware or cutlery!

For best results, wash your tea towel in a cold cycle on your machine with other similar coloured items. It’ll wrinkle in the wash, so gently pull it back in to shape before hanging it to dry on the clothesline. Iron on the reverse side of the print with a warm iron. Don’t tumble dry or dry clean.
