It may not be as famous as Vegemite, but an afternoon cuppa with friends and a packet of Tim Tams is an essential Australian experience. In 1958, Ian Norris - Director of Food Technology’ at Arnotts - took a world trip looking for inspiration for new products. While in Britain, he found the Penguin biscuit and decided (with typical Aussie gumption) to try to "make a better one". The resulting biscuit became so much more than the sum of its parts: the humble Tim Tam is an aspect of Australian identity as ingrained as our love of barbecues or full-contact winter sports.
Melbournalia's exclusive Tim Tam Dish is an homage to our love of the humble Tim Tam, and makes a delightful gift for anyone who loves to entertain or decorate - perfect for serving a bikkie with the afternoon coffee, bite-size nibbles at cocktail hour, as an intriguing detail on a gallery wall, or even as a beautiful dish on a dresser for rings or small jewellery. The Tim Tam Dish is illuminated by an original 'text-sketch' design by Melbourne - New York based group Prts and Pcs.
Our Tim Tam Dish has been made in Melbourne exclusively for Melbournalia by R.L.Foote Designs: Specialists in high quality tableware for use in both private and fine-dining environments. Each Melbourne Tim Tam Dish is hand-cast and has a decal carefully applied by hand before firing. This results in a vessel rich in the character and slight variations of hand-making, giving each piece a unique patina. Please keep in mind that your dish will differ from that pictured, and that variations in the finish of each piece are intentional - that's part of the beauty of handmade products!
