Melbournalia is currently taking an extended break...we'll see you again soon!

Our Top 5 "to do" in and around the MFWF Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2021

The Fab Five

As the weather cools down the activities in Melbourne start to warm up... this year we will embrace it all "eat, drink and be merry" we say - for tomorrow... well who knows?

MFWF has a great calendar of events but places are really restricted this year, so we've thrown in some other fun beyond the MFWF stuff too!

    1.
MFWF Event: The Magical World of Honey
Delve deep into the world of the honey bee, one of the most critical animals of our ecosystem, in this interactive and informative event.

Find out more about how honey is created and harvested, try different varieties of honey and more, as Left Bank Melbourne and Liam Spurrell of Spurrell Foraging pay tribute to the tiny but mighty bee.

Honey made by Melbourne bees - with a little help from some human pals!
Our good friends at Melbourne City Rooftop Honey tend beehives positioned on top of rooftops in central Melbourne, as well as in private backyards in our inner city and city fringe neighbourhoods... we've sold their golden goodness since 2013!

    2.
MFWF Event: For the Love of Riesling
Thai and riesling are a match made in flavour heaven. See why at a five-course dinner with matching wines at Chin Chin, where bold South-East Asian flavours will be expertly paired with one of the most versatile aromatic white grapes.

Self published (and notoriously difficult to get your hands on) Melbournalia is proud to stock both Chin Chin-The Book and Chin Chin-Feed Me, a follow up publication based on the restaurant's famous 'feed me' menu option.

    3.
If you can’t get into a sold out MFWF event say - stuff it - and head to no-nonsense Smith & Daughters in Fitzroy...

“the embodiment of award winning chef Shannon Martinez’s commitment to bring the world fucking delicious food. Smith & Daughters combines her knack for creating dynamic vegan cuisine, with an unrelenting commitment to creating a fun, no-bullshit dining experience.”

You know it’s good when there’s always a line around the block. Smith & Deli is the trailblazing vegan deli from the Smith & Daughters team, Shannon Martinez and Mo Wyse, a Melbourne foodie gem that outgrew its bricks from day one.

Fortunately for you, Smith & Deli-cious: Food From our Deli (That Happens to be Vegan) will allow you skip the queue and go right to the good stuff: mac and cheese, spanakopita, “meat” pies, doughnuts and more.

    4.
MFWF Guide: Afterparty a list of great Melbourne bars.

      We have some further suggestions...
With gleaming polished floors, marble bar, golden lamps, deep leather booths and late night licence, The Everleigh in uptown Fitzroy is
just one Melbourne jewel of many shimmering in the Made in the Shade crown. You could also choose Heartbreaker or Bar Maugaux to meet your crew before, during or after your MFWF events!

Or continue the party at home with The Everleigh's own cocktail book A Spot at the Bar  - it explores more than just recipes. With affable asides discussing the correct use of glassware, the history and variations of famous drinks, classic cocktail bar history, proper etiquette and dress, and more than 300 recipes for fond and forgotten classic cocktails, this is a book to treasure.

    5. MFWF Event: World's Longest Brunch
Who better to kick off this epic tribute to our city’s favourite meal ... who said Melbourne BRUNCH?... than café king Nathan Toleman of the Mulberry Group and Lune Croissanterie’s pastry queen Kate Reid?

Wear your heart’s desire - a croissant - on your collar (or your ears) not your sleeve 'cos that would just be a buttery mess! We have a new range of food related jewellery from the fab Victoria Mason.
