Muddled March March 18 2019, 0 Comments

It's well past the middle of our favourite month in Melbourne... but the hint of summer lingers. We're not sure if we should be getting the hot water bottle out of moth balls, head for the hills or take off to the beach!

Honey is REAL News September 04 2018, 0 Comments

Buy the REAL stuff - not the fakes!
The Melbourne City Rooftop Honey folks are beekeepers with a vision! Their "think global act local" approach aims to bring bees back to the city and the suburbs of Melbourne while being part of a wider effort to help save the honey bees across the planet from the threat of widespread disease, which is disastrous to the bees...and to us! Bees are vital to our existence!

Matt and Vanessa and their team at Melbourne City Rooftop Honey harvest delicious, raw, unblended honey from local bees who, like us, are living and thriving right here in Melbourne.

"This project not only seeks to address issues of sustainability, it also aims to raise awareness of the importance of bees whilst creating delicious honey. By placing hives on the roof spaces of cafés, restaurants, hotels and individual's gardens in and around Melbourne we have reduced the distance from production to plate to mere metres."

Here @melbournalia the opinions are mixed about Royal Wedding fever. But we all love a good souvenir and we all agree that homelessness is a problem in wealthy cities (like ours). So we bought a mug!

A Day in Town May 03 2018, 0 Comments

Who remembers their trips to "Town" as a child? It was so exciting, such a sense of occasion to have your hair brushed, shoes shined, make sure you have a clean hankie of course and set off with mum (or dad, or both) on a day trip into the city. Was it a choc top at the "pictures", lunch at Coles Cafeteria or running your hands up and down the water wall at the NGV that you liked the most?
Harper and Charlie Flinders St Station Melbourne

Oh, all right, maybe you're too young to have had the shiny shoes, clean hankie and the Traffic Light Jelly at Coles routine, and your movie may have been Harry Potter or Babe rather than The Sound of Music or even Star Wars...but we're sure you wore your best sneakers and that you'll recall the excitement of passing under the clocks at Flinders Street Station, the gateway to the big city, or even glimpsing the grand old landmark passing by on the tram or from the old Princes Bridge exit!

What's your favourite memory of "A day in Town"?

Melbourne in March March 14 2018, 0 Comments

It's our favourite month in Marvellous Melbourne!

Don't mistake us, we love Melbourne all year round; it's just that March is a time of such purpose. The year has started to take shape and the summer holiday vibe recedes, it's still warm so we let go with a smile. All our grand plans are being made and settling into place.

But it's not time to get turn on the heater and get the hot water bottle out just yet! The Melbourne calendar is filled to bursting this month; the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival and don't forget the AFLW footy finals! The fab NGV Triennial continues until mid-April and if you really must get out of town there's White Night Ballarat, The Kyneton Lost Trades Fair, The Stawell Gift and Lorne Sculpture Triennale...phew!

Rainbow Connection August 24 2017, 0 Comments

Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me...lbourne
Actually we hope the whole rainbow coloured land makes it to the other side!
Lyrics: Paul Williams & Kenny Ascher, 1979

Autumn in Melbourne! March 25 2017, 0 Comments

Crisp mornings, sunny afternoons, garden strolls, leaf falls, cardigans and a little crackle and hum in the air...
is it VAMFF, Melbourne International Design Week, The Australian Grand Prix, the 2017 AFL season kicking off, or The Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show?
Mostly Autumn is a time to reflect on the fabulous city we are so lucky to inhabit!
