In his late teens Ian Kenins bought his first camera. He began taking it to football and cricket matches - sneaking himself into the press section to take a cheeky place amongst the professional photographers. By the late 'eighties Kenins was freelancing as a sports photographer for The Age and The Australian newspapers. Before long he had branched out from sport into whatever assignments he could grab and established himself as a vernacular photographer of rare talent.

In 'A Snapshot of Melbourne' Kenins captures a side of Melbourne so familiar we might forget to see it: Images of cricket matches in tiny inner-city alleyways, shots from banjo sing-alongs in vanished Brunswick bookstores, and countless extraordinary photographs of ordinary Aussies making their small contributions to everyday history.

A Snapshot of Melbourne is a photography book that truly captures the heart of Melbourne’s vibrant street life. Drawing from almost thirty years of work, this collection of over 150 images is by turns timeless and nostalgic. Beautifully printed in duotone, this is a little coffee-table book with a big heart. Give a copy to someone who misses Melbourne's bay-side beaches, idiosyncratic style, and neighbourhood vibe.
