Built in 1927 to replace a cinema that had been lost to fire, the opening of the massive 'Palais Pictures' building officially confirmed St Kilda's identity as Melbourne's leisure district. As the years went by the Palais became better known as a theatre hosting live performance, surviving the years when St Kilda was better known as a dangerous 'red light' district, and several near-closures and changes of ownership. Taking a stroll down to the water, past the Palais Theatre and its neighbour Luna Park is a quintissentially Melbourne activity. Grab a scoop of gelato from Acland Street and stroll away...
Postcards featuring Harper and Charlie's range of original retro prints. Celebrate the culture, architecture and design of Melbourne and Australia with a tiny piece from Melbourne's contemporary design community!
Inspired by art from the 1950s and 60s, Harper and Charlie use vintage print techniques to achieve their authentic feel. If you look closely you might be able to spot the careful details - slipped registration, slight colour-bleed, or light scuffs in the design - that give these beautiful designs their warmth and character.
