Commission Flats Collingwood Print

The Commission Flats in Collingwood are a paean to the idealistic 1920s and '30's when social reformers were drawn to the siren-song of Modernist ideas about 'cities in the sky'. This '60s-era public-housing scheme in Collingwood was the work of Australia's Housing Commission - established in 1937 to ease the terrible living conditions in slums across Australian inner cities - but as the years went by the Modernist dream developed dirty edges and the tower-block hopes of the Housing Commission soured. The scale and conformity of these buildings - scattered in locations across central Melbourne - has made them architectural icons.
Harper and Charlie make original retro prints celebrating the culture, architecture and design of Melbourne and Australia.
Inspired by art from the 1950s and 60s, Harper and Charlie use vintage print techniques to achieve their authentic feel. If you look closely you might be able to spot the careful details - slipped registration, slight colour-bleed, or light scuffs in the design - that give these beautiful prints their warmth and character.
All Harper and Charlie prints are designed and made right here in Melbourne using the highest quality commercial grade inks. All prints use premium grade Ilford 180gsm matt paper.
Large prints will be posted carefully rolled in a tube and protected with a layer of brown paper. A4 prints will be posted flat, sandwiched between Kraft board.
