The 'W-Class' tram was affectionately known in Melbourne as the 'Green Rattler' in homage to its sturdy but prone-to-clatter construction. Green Rattler trams hail from an age when Melbourne still had our beloved platoons of Tram Conductors - known as 'connies', - who were famous for chatting, doing magic tricks, reciting tram-poetry and even singing. The end of the era of connies was widely mourned, and Melburnians still have a soft spot for the Heritage Listed 'W-Class' trams that run on our city circle route, or serve as moving restaurants and tourist attractions.
Designer Helena Harry studied fine art at Melbourne's VCA before moving to Europe where she trained and began a successful international career in architecture. Today she continues her architectural and design practice from Melbourne. These classic tea towels focus on the iconic architecture, culture and design of our favourite city. Made for Melbournalia.
You’ll find your linen tea towel quite stiff at first. This is what makes it great for printing. It will soften after a few washes, and it may shrink a little. Linen’s absorbency improves over time. Best of all, it doesn’t leave pills on your glassware or cutlery!
For best results, wash your tea towel in a cold cycle on your machine with other similar coloured items. It’ll wrinkle in the wash, so gently pull it back in to shape before hanging it to dry on the clothesline. Iron on the reverse side of the print with a warm iron. Don’t tumble dry or dry clean.
Material: 100% European Linen.
