Designed by iconic Australian graphic artist James Northfield, this reproduction print depicts St Kilda Road in Melbourne's Centenary year. This is St Kilda Road as it was in the heyday of the 1930's, when the elm trees planted in the late eighteen hundreds were newly mature, and our beloved National Gallery of Victoria (Australia's most visited arts museum) was still a daydream with decades to wait until ground was broken.
James Northfield was one of the most celebrated commercial artists of the 20th century in Australia. He was recognised for his sound draughtsmanship, his excellent composition and the remarkable atmosphere of light and colour with which he captured the quality of the Australian landscape. His work appeared in billboard advertisements, promotional travel posters and posters relating to World Wars I and II.
These iconic designs have been reproduced by Printism, with permission from the James Northfield Heritage Trust.
Materials: Acid free achival paper.
Dimensions (cm): 71.5 x 54 (whole poster), 48 x 60 (printed area)
